Computer Crime

Computer crime, or cybercrime, is any crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target. Netcrime is criminal exploitation of the Internet. Dr. Debarati Halder and Dr. K. Jaishankar (2011) define Cybercrimes as: "Offenses that are committed against individuals or groups of individuals with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm to the victim directly or indirectly, using modern telecommunication networks such as Internet (Chat rooms, emails, notice boards and groups) and mobile phones (SMS/MMS)". Such crimes may threaten a nation’s security and financial health. Issues surrounding these types of crimes have become high-profile, particularly those surrounding hacking, copyright infringement, child pornography, and child grooming. There are also problems of privacy when confidential information is intercepted or disclosed, lawfully or otherwise.

              How Can I Promote Good Use of Computer?

            Computer is a very powerful tool that can change and manipulate the world by just typing and clicking. It can be used for so many purposes such as business, education, research, entertainment, governmental projects, and so forth. Very helpful for everyone, but by just one click, it can possibly destroy someone's life.
            I admit the fact that, I am not expert when it comes to computer. Blogging, browsing, surfing, that's not my forte and I'm not even interested with those things.I just love chatting, looking at my Facebook, watching videos, and knowing important and current news and events. I just want to be updated. But as a netizen, am I using my computer in good ways? Am I violating the Cybercrime Law? Absolutely no! Because I know what I'm doing, I know how to control my emotions, and I know the 10 commandments of computer ethics. Well, I'm pretty sure that I have no problem to myself. How about you guys? Please let us see the consequences of what we are doing in the internet. Always think out of the box and be sensitive on what others will feel. Just put yourselves on the shoes of others and try to reflect on what you are doing. It is so fun to use the internet without stepping on others rights. Knowing that you are free from any violations.
            Computer is not just a tool for fun,  it is also a tool that holds billions of lives around the world. So if you think you're the only one who can use the use the net and do whatever you want, just pull the plug of your PC and go to sleep. Much better.
